Responsibility for fixing damages in Macon County depends on whether the damage is to personal property (private) or public infrastructure (roads, sidewalks). In NC, the at-fault party is responsible for damages, while public works handles repairs on county-maintained property.

Macon County operates on a fiscal year, which begins July 1 and ends June 30 of the following year. The County Manager's Office presents a proposed budget to the Board of Commissioners in May. The budget is in accordance with the North Carolina Local Government Budget and Fiscal Control Act.
